The endurance training world has just experienced one of its biggest shake-ups in years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On July 22, 2026, Garmin announced that it had acquired TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic, two established platforms used by endurance coaches, athletes and strength professionals around the world.<\/p>\n

For Garmin, the acquisition adds structured coaching, performance analysis and athlete-management tools to an already extensive fitness ecosystem. For TrainingPeaks users, it naturally raises a few questions: What changes now? Could the platform become more closely tied to Garmin devices? And should coaches consider keeping an independent alternative in view?<\/p>\n

What exactly has Garmin acquired?<\/h2>\n

Garmin has acquired both TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic from Peaksware Holdings. TrainingPeaks is best known for endurance coaching, structured workouts and performance analysis, while TrainHeroic focuses primarily on strength and conditioning.<\/p>\n

According to the official Garmin announcement<\/a>, approximately 120 employees from the two businesses will join Garmin. The financial terms were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

Garmin says the deal will strengthen its fitness ecosystem by offering more customizable coaching experiences for endurance, strength and performance-focused athletes.<\/p>\n

Why does Garmin want TrainingPeaks?<\/h2>\n

Garmin already has a major presence on athletes’ wrists, bike handlebars and training dashboards. Acquiring TrainingPeaks gives the company a stronger position in another valuable part of the experience: the relationship between athletes and professional coaches.<\/p>\n

Instead of only recording a workout, Garmin can now become more closely involved in how training is planned, delivered and analyzed. The deal connects Garmin’s device ecosystem with TrainingPeaks’ endurance tools and TrainHeroic’s strength platform.<\/p>\n

Strategically, that combination makes sense. Garmin gains access to established coaching communities, while TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic gain the resources of a major global fitness company.<\/p>\n

What changes for TrainingPeaks users?<\/h2>\n

For now, probably very little. Garmin’s announcement did not detail any immediate changes to TrainingPeaks accounts, subscriptions, pricing or supported devices. Coaches and athletes can continue using the platform while they wait for more information.<\/p>\n

It is also important not to assume that support for Polar, Suunto, COROS, Wahoo, Apple or other brands will suddenly disappear. No such change was announced.<\/p>\n

The longer-term direction, however, remains unknown. Garmin has not yet explained whether TrainingPeaks will become more deeply integrated with Garmin Connect, whether Garmin users will receive exclusive features, or how ownership could influence third-party integrations in the future.<\/p>\n

What should coaches review?<\/h2>\n

The acquisition is not necessarily bad news. Garmin has significant technical resources and could accelerate the development of TrainingPeaks. Nevertheless, coaches should pay attention to how the platform evolves.<\/p>\n

Most coaches manage athletes using a mixture of Garmin, Polar, Suunto, COROS, Wahoo and Apple devices. Their coaching platform needs to work for the whole group, not just one hardware ecosystem.<\/p>\n
